Assistant Professor of Husson University, Patricia Eldershaw, PhD (Soc), MSN, RN offers this 60-minute webinar to introduce nurse participants to the science of climate change and the consequences for environmental and human health. Participants will learn about the health benefits of sustainable solutions and the role of nurses can have in advocating for health environments.

Learning Objectives:

  • Gain an understanding of the science of climate change.
  • Review environmental impacts: extreme heat and weather events, air pollution, contaminated water, food scarcity.
  • Examine the consequences of environmental pollution on human health.
  • Summarize health impacts on respiratory, cardiovascular diseases, injury, food and water contamination, infectious diseases, and mental health.
  • Consider the added health burdens that climate changes pose to vulnerable and marginalized populations.
  • Explore sustainable solutions for healthy environments and the nurse's role in reducing and responding to the health consequences of climate change.
  • Describe the health benefits of sustainable practices on a person, community, and health systems.
