Valerie Fuller - First Nurse Practitioner to Serve in the Medical Provider of the Day Program
On Tuesday, January 9th, 2024, Valerie Fuller, PhD, DNP, AGACNP-BC, FNP-BC, FAANP served as Medical Provider of the Day at the Maine State Legislature. Dr. Fuller practices in the Department of Surgery at Maine Medical Center in Portland and is the APRN member and Chair of the Maine State Board of Nursing.
The Medical Provider of the Day is a volunteer program that provides medical assistance at the State House in the event of a medical emergency. This program recognizes Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Physicians who provide health care services throughout the state. The program is operated with the cooperation and support of several organizations including the Maine Medical Association, the Maine Nurse Practitioner Association, the Maine Osteopathic Association, and the Maine Association of Physician Assistants.
“It is an honor to be at the Maine State Legislature representing the more than 3500 Nurse Practitioners (NPs) across the state who provide primary, acute, and specialty healthcare to patients of all ages,” said Dr. Fuller, who is the first Nurse Practitioner to serve in the Medical Provider of the Day program. “Maine Nurse Practitioners are health care experts who advocate for increasing access to high-quality, evidence-based care for all Maine citizens”.
